Youths invade church, attack worshippers over bishop’s alleged infidelity

JESSE—TENS of youths, weekend, invaded a Pentecostal church in Jesse, Delta State brutalizing worshipers during a  service over an allegation of infidelity leveled against the presiding bishop of the church.

The cleric, (name withheld),  the bishop of Mountain of Prayer Ministry, was alleged to have have slept with the wife of the President General of Idjerhe Clan Development Union, ICDU, Chief Austin Omonode, under the guise of rendering special prayers for her. According to a member of the church,  who spoke on condition of anonymity, “they were having their normal Sunday School service when the youths in their numbers stormed the church looking for the bishop, who was absent during the service and they ended up destroying property in the church.”
Commenting on the matter, Chief Omonde, who was earlier invited for questioning by security operatives in the area, denied sending the youths to attack the church or the Bishop. Accusing the Bishop of having extramarital affairs with his wife, Chief Omonode said:

“The Bishop has been sleeping with my wife for the past two years and I reported the matter to the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, yet he continued in his heinous act.”
